Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s sent back through your home. This liquid is contained within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most widely used refrigerants used for a very long time – the R-22 (Freon) is now being phased out because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. Production of R-22 will cease by 2020. Introducing R-410A Chlorine-free and ozone-friendly, R-410A is recognized by the EPA. That means it’ll cool your home without harming the environment. What’s more, Lennox’s highest efficiency systems are made to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system perform efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for durability, quiet operation and improved dehumidification, so you can stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Brooks Heating and Air Conditioning in Bossier City, our cooling models can work with R-410A. If your system was installed before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
